5 minutes until you go for a run

Before you GO FOR A RUN there’s one important prerequisite that shouldn’t be forgotten but that a lot of runners skip.

The warm up. I remember my best friend used to claim that he could wake up and be running in under 10 minutes.

That included:

  • Toilet time
  • Getting dressed
  • And having a drink of water

Me on the other hand?

No chance.

I’d be lucky to be out of bed within 10 minutes. Usually I’d lie there bleary-eyed, not wanting to leave my warm comforter. I’d check my phone (multiple times). And then I’d hit the snooze button.

My friend’s tactic was that you can only give yourself 5 seconds and you fly out of bed.

Then you just keep moving until you’re up and running – without any reason to stop.

So I gave it a whirl.

I’m not going to lie, it definitely helped me get running.

But the problem?

I kept getting injured. It was frustrating as hell because I’d swapped one problem for another.

Here’s my big mistake:

I wasn’t warming up.

It was hard enough to run without having to do all those silly stretches you see on YouTube. They feel pointless. You’re not sure if your routine is even working.

But warming up is like investing.

You don’t notice the impact of doing it little by little, but in 20 years time, it’s the difference between being broke and being fit as a fiddle.

If you don’t warm up you drastically increase the risk that’ll you spend years sidelined with injuries.

That’s the bad news. The good news is you don’t need to spend half an hour warming up everyday.

Instead here’s a fast and effective 5 minute warm-up routine I use every time:

Here are 13 simple movements you can do in 5 minutes (so you don’t get hurt):photo8:49 AM • Dec 27, 2022298Retweets1656LikesRead 61 replies

A simple routine will:

  • Raise your heart rate
  • Increase your blood flow
  • Increase your core body temperature
  • Activate the muscles and nervous system

So that when you start running, you’ll use good form and you’re ready to withstand the impact.

Trust me, take the time to warm up, and your body with thank you.
